The mean temperature for the month was 17.56°C which made it +1.79°C warmer than the 1961-1990 LTA. August saw a heatwave which although mainly forecast in the southeast did affect daily maxima in the central England region from the 5th to the 12th, but the warm nights and high minima in August lasted much longer than that.
