Autumn 2020 – 23rd mildest since 1659

The meteorological Autumn of 2020 was yet another very mild one and the 23rd mildest on record since 1659. The mean temperature for the three months of 11.0°C was 0.75 degrees above the 1861-1990 LTA. Fourteen of the top 40 warmest autumns have occurred since the start of the new millenium which just goes to show how fast our climate is warming. The linear trend since 1878 show that autumn’s are now over 1.2 degrees warmer than they were back in 1920.
