Coldest start to a January since 2010

The first nine days of January 2020 have proved (provisionally) to be the coldest start to a New Year since 2010 with a mean temperature of 1.06°C which is -2.48°C below the 1961-1990 LTA for that period. The recent winters of 1979, 1997 and 2009 are all above it in the rankings in which it lies in 47th position.
