July 2020 was the coolest July since 2012 in the central England series. The mean temperature for the month was 15.73°C, which was -0.32°C below the 1961-1990. It would have been a considerably colder month if it hadn’t finished with a record mean maximum of 33.2°C on the 31st itself 12.9°C above the daily LTA. The other daily record to fall during the month was a new record minimum of 7.0°C on the 21st, 4.8°C below the daily LTA. Daily maximum temperatures until the 30th were below average for much of the time no doubt helped by spells of sometimes cyclonic northwesterlies.
