May 2021 – Coldest since 1996

May was a rather cold month in central England but temperatures did perked up considerably during the last five days to lift the mean temperature to 10.16°C which was exactly a degree below the 1961-1990 LTA. That was enough to make it the coldest May in central England since the very cold May of 1996. The 29th was the first time since March 31st that the daily maximum had exceeded 20°C. No daily records were broken during the month and it escaped any air frosts.
