Summer 2020 extended the run of above average summers in central England to five. In fact in the last thirty years 24 of them have been above the 1961-1990 LTA. I make the mean temperature for the whole of the meteorological summer 16.2°C, which was 0.88°C higher than the 1961-1990 LTA. The summer started and ended with temperatures below average, in fact July was a rather cool month, but a short hot spell just after midsummer in June and another at the end of July, with a more prolonged very warm spell through August boosted temperatures. Summer saw five new high maximum records being set combined with three new high minimum records. There was just the one extreme minimum record set for the minimum of 7.0°C on the 21st of July.
