Warmest Midsummer’s day on record

Provisionally yesterday, Midsummer’s day 2020 was the warmest since 1878 in central England. The 29.4°C easily broke the modest maximum of 28.0°C set in June 1935. The mean of 21.5°C didn’t quite manage to exceed the mean of June 1935 though, and although things may change when they are verified at the end of the month, this is likely to stay the case. Today’s maximum (25 June 2020) will be interesting to see too, because the highest maximum in central England on the 25th of June is currently the 29.1°C set in 1976.
